Puerto Rico was first inhabited by a society of hunter-gatherers who discovered the island at least a thousand years before the Spanish arrived. They were called the Taino culture. They lived in small villages led by chiefs. Eventually Christopher Columbus came and discovered islands in the Caribbean including Puerto Rico. Eventually that lead to the Columbian Exchange and the Transatlantic slave trade. After that, around 1865, local commissions reported that slavery should be abolished. Then we fast forward to the Spanish American war. This allowed the U.S. to take Puerto Rico and other islands away from Spain. This also prevented Puerto Rico from putting in their new government. The U.S. saw the island as a profitable area for tropical crops. However the main purpose was to have it as a secure coaling station for ships.
Eventually around the time President Roosevelts administration, They were aided when he initiated his New Deal Policies. Which basically introduced a new government. This later formed the Puerto Rican reconstruction administration which made an effort to redistribute economic power on the island. During the years of 1948-68 Puerto Rico changed from being economically based on agriculture to industrial production. In 1952 Puerto Rico was granted commonwealth status. They then became a self-governing territory.
In the past decade Puerto Rico has been debating on political status and economical stability. They have embraced their connection with the United States while also walking triumphantly as Hispanic-Americans.

Your post was very informative and seems to meet the key historical highlights of it all. Puerto Rico is a very interesting island; however, I think you could add a bit more how the island reflects some Caribbean characteristics. Going based off the rubric, however, I think images may be something necessary to give a more visual context for readers. Another suggestion would be to cite your sources in MLA format. Overall, I liked your post as it seemed very clear and concise.
